Although maybe I’ve finally learned the “don’t go canoeing with a bunch of kayakers” lesson. Again. Today’s adventure was from Oak Bottom to the CARR POWERHOUSE on Whiskeytown Lake. Unfortunately, when you’re in a big lumbering canoe, (which is perfect, incidentally, for camping) it’s not so perfect for racing kayaks. I’m sore; I’m sunburnt. I don’t know how many miles it is, but it took us three hours to do it. Dog, as usual, was the hit of the show and even the drunken slobs we passed had to call out a greeting and let us know how great she is (Glad they can tell in their inebriated state --now if they’d just figure out what “no wakes” means.) We saw ospreys, great blue herons, and a lot of mergansers traveling with their chicks in a row. Quite nice. We’ve been trying to figure out what watercraft we’re going to get next, but chances are The Husband will be buying a kayak, and I have my eye on THIS LITTLE GEM because Dog has to come with us or the trip just isn’t the same. Unfortunately, you can’t balance a sixty pound canine on the bow of a kayak. Tags: canoeing Mood: creative Background Noise: Papa Roach - "Scar"
